The Amyotha Hluttaw is formed with up to 224 representatives: (a) 168 representatives elected on an equal basis, 12 from each Region or State, and (b) 56 Defence Services personnel representatives nominated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, four from each Region or State. The term of the Amyotha Hluttaw runs in line with the term of the Pyithu Hluttaw.
